They say that color affects mood and companies have been using it to do just that for decades. The red and yellow in fast food logos is no mistake; they know that combining those colors make the human brain long for sustenance.

Restaurants use color too. They lower lighting, use red-cushioned seating, and entice patrons with table signage in the colors that make our mouths water. While yellow is frequently seen in these instances, it is also a color that does more than make us hungry. Yellow makes us happy!

Why use yellow?

Psychologists and homeowners alike have long known that the color yellow brings out the smile in all of us. It is the colorwe use to paint the sun and color in smiley faces. Yellow is bright, cheerful, and entirely refreshing.

Can you look at a lemon and feel anything except a burst of zesty energy? Probably not. That is why capturing that color and feel in your decor is a great, low-cost way to transport your home’s energy into a pleasant and positive realm.

Where to use yellow in your decor

When you’re considering adding yellow into your decor, the tendency might be to dive head first into a total makeover. Unfortunately, yellow walls, yellow fabrics, and yellow accessories will do nothing except give you yellow-overload. Yellow in moderation is the key.

Because it is such a versatile color, however, it is great for use in the bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchen, and everywhere in-between. Perk up your mud room with some bursts of yellow. Make your laundry room fun with some lemon-colored walls. Yellow is ideal for any room that needs a happy, cheerful feel to it.

Luscious Lemon Accents

While decorating with lemons is acceptable in the kitchen and possibly even in the dining room and living room, lemon is more the color than the fruit. Half-walls in the guest bathroom with a white bead board bottom and yellow top are cheerful and classy. A few yellow throw pillows on the white bedspread in the guest room add instant sunshine to the space. Even in that tiny, windowless powder room tucked beneath the stairs, a painting of yellow sunflowers is a ray of happiness on the walls.

Curtains are a great place to start if you are hesitant to add too much yellow to your space. Yellow accents on white panels or even a yellow sheer curtain behind a white panel is just enough color to perk up the decor without overwhelming it.

Yellow is happy and versatile

Yellow is a happy, versatile color. It is ideal for any room and perfect for any home’s decor. Whether your style is modern and bold or country and classic, there is a place for yellow accents in both. Choose the shade of yellow that you use wisely and use it sparingly to get just the look you are after. Too much and your home will look overwhelming, but when it is just right, you will have a cheerful decor that will make you and your family happy.
