There is a time and place for color. Soft and gentle colors are ideal for relaxing spots in the home. Bolder colors are great for when you want to make an impact. But what happens when the wrong colors are used in the spaces you treasure? It is a case of bold color gone bad. Take cues from some of the color mistakes below to make sure your home is not on the “most needs-to-be-redecorated” list.
Out of Place Purple
Purple is a beautiful color when it is in its palest forms. It speaks of fresh lilacs and springtime joy. When it is bold and bright, however, it is more reminiscent of the annoying purple dinosaur that made its way into homes on children’s television shows.

Bold purple walls are never a color that someone wants to see in a guest bathroom, bedroom, or any other room in the house, for that matter. Imagine walking into a dining room and being expected to eat while the walls around you pulsed with purple hue. No, bold purple is a definite must-not-have for any room’s paint color.
Lemons for Limeade
Fresh, green spring grass is one of the happiest colors around. There is no better color to remind one of rebirth and hope after a cold, dreary winter. Unfortunately, that bright yellow-green color does little to inspire when it becomes the wall color in a room’s decor.

Overwhelming and probably headache inducing, bright yellow-lime green on the walls is not a color to embrace. If you want to capture the feel of spring, include the color sparingly in fabric designs or even in a vase of fresh cut flowers on a coffee table. Remember, less is definitely more when it comes to bright colors in decor.
Furious Fuchsia
Little girls and teenagers love bright colors and fuchsia ranks right up there as one of their favorites. The bold color speaks to all things girly and adds a certain amount of zest and vibrancy to any space when used in moderation. The problem arises when the bedroom walls take on the fuchsia hue and happiness is replaced with glare and unease.

While bold colors are exciting, they can also overload the system with their brightness. Instead of causing sleepless nights in a bright fuchsia room, add the color through accessories, accents and wall art. The bedcover, curtains, and even a fuchsia throw rug would all be great ways to give your little girl the color she loves without overdoing it and creating a color disaster.
Bold colors require restraint
Bright, bold colors can offer a great way to jazz up a space. They bring a pop of vibrancy and a feel that neutral tones simply lack. The trick is to use them sparingly and to limit how many different colors are in one space. Instead of incorporating a half-dozen colors into one room, stick with one bold color that you love and use that as the room’s accent hue. Throw pillows, area rugs, vases, and accessories can be found in just about any shade. Use them instead of heading straight for the walls and causing a decorating faux pas.
